The Secretary of State for Scotland Michael Moore visited Hampden Park today where he met senior representatives of Hampden and LOCOG to view the preparations underway for the Olympic Football tournament.
The stadium will host eight Olympic football matches during the Olympic Football Tournament which will take place from 25 July until 3 August 2012.
Mr. Moore was given a tour of the facilities and discussed the issues being faced by the organising team. Whilst Hampden Park has successfully hosted many high profile events, the security aspects of the Olympic Games are unique and bring with them their own challenges which are being met.
Following the visit, Mr. Moore said:
“The facilities here at Hampden are world class and that is reflected by the London 2012 organisers choosing to host a number of the matches here.
“Scotland will be the envy of UK football fans everywhere as we welcome the newly crowned Euro 2012 champions Spain, and the USA’s women’s team, the reigning Olympic champions, to Glasgow.”
