This iconic image shows a GREAT British welcome projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover, with just one week until the opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games.
As Olympic Teams start to arrive in the UK, over 250,000 square metres of accommodation are ready for more than 23,000 athletes and officials at the Olympic and Paralympic Village;
On Friday 20 July, the Olympic Torch will arrive in London, where it will begin the final leg of its journey, going through every London borough before the cauldron is lit in the Opening Ceremony one week from today.
The White Cliffs of Dover are cliffs which form part of the British coastline facing the Strait of Dover and France – from where they can be seen on a clear day.
The Cliffs have a rich history: they mark the UK’s closest point to France; troops defended here against the Romans’ arrival, and many Dunkirk evacuees landed on the local beaches.
